1964 389 Flexplate Question

Post by bdubya74 »

Hi All - newbie here with a question i'm hoping you can answer. I recently purchased a 1964 389/4 for our 1966 Tempest convertible. This engine did not come with the starter or flexplate, as I was planning on using the combo from the recently removed 326. As I'm currently defeated in removing the flexplate bolts from the 326, I was going to purchase a new one. And now, the internal vs external balance question has me stumped. Do I need an internal or external balance flexplate for this 389? Any links to products that might work, help or input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I believe you need the externally balanced. Pontiac did a slight external balance on the flexplate/ flywheel.
